Text: Matt Carey
Interview: Fredrik Wallner
Case: Sony Music

All around the world, architects and designers are using BAUX Acoustic Tiles and Panels in exciting projects for great brands. In a series of newsletters, we aim to introduce you to a selection of projects and the mind masters behind the designs of these acoustic artworks. Why? Because there are endless design possibilities to share with the world. We simply will call these newsletters Interviews #.

Tell us about the vision for Sony Music’s office and the challenges you faced.

The goal was to create a space where indie and major record labels could feel at home under one roof. Bringing together such a diverse group of companies and creatives was exciting but challenging. It felt like being a therapist—finding common ground while ensuring the space reflected Sony Music’s creative spirit.

How did you begin the project?

The first step was finding the right location. Sony Music chose Katarina Huset in Slussen. It’s a central location, and the building is aligned with their commitment to sustainable building practices. From there, the focus was on creating an inclusive interior that met the diverse teams’ needs.

What was the concept for the interior design?

We aimed for a space that made every label feel at home. It’s a delicate balance—designing a workspace that’s functional yet warm and personal. I went with a monochrome palette to keep the working spaces neutral, allowing the colourful images of Sony Music’s artists to take centre stage.

Sustainability is a big deal today. How did you integrate it into this project?

Absolutely, sustainability was central to the brief. We reused furniture from previous offices wherever possible and sourced all new furnishings sustainably. The BAUX Desk Dividers were a fantastic choice—they’re made from recycled PET and designed to adapt to the office’s needs over time.

What did the BAUX desk dividers bring to the space?

Sony Music wanted an open office concept, and the BAUX desk dividers helped achieve that balance. They provide privacy and improve acoustics without closing off the space. They’re also practical—mounting directly to the desks saves space and keeps things tidy. Workers can even personalize their space by pinning items to the dividers without leaving marks.

How has the team at Sony Music responded?

They’re very happy. The space feels modern, organised, and uncluttered. The team particularly appreciates the flexibility of the dividers—they offer just the right amount of privacy while still fostering communication.

What would your dream BAUX project look like?

I’d love to experiment with BAUX materials beyond walls – maybe floors, surfaces, or even furnishings in a retail space, like a shop or boutique, that would be cool!
